On June 13th 2022 Corel, home of Parallels – an award-winning virtualization and VDI solution that includes Parallels RAS (Remote Application Server) and Parallels Desktop – announced acquiring Awingu to strengthen their ability to deliver a secure, productive remote workspace for its millions of users.

While both Awingu and Parallels satisfy the same general need – enabling end users to access virtual workspaces from anywhere – they both have different accents and strengths. Each cater different use-cases.

WHAT IS PARALLELS RAS?

Parallels RAS (short for Remote Application Server) is an application delivery and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution that hosts applications and desktops on a central server(s).

Parallels RAS uses distributed components installed on windows Servers.

RAS includes the ability to deploy, manage and scale the infrastructure which hosts applications and/or desktops. That’s very interesting in for example VDI, Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) or hybrid deployments.

Users are able to access their resources through the browser (Parallels Web Client) or via the installed Parallels Clients (Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, and iOS/iPadOS) which enables e.g. USB redirection or bi-directional audio.
